The storage will be multiple row racks with frozen food products to no higher than 30 ft. { Applicable Code: `• The facility is to be designed to comply with Oregon Fire Code,and sprinklers are to be installed in accordance with the 2013 edition of NFPA 13. Alternative Means and Methods: NFPA 13,Chapter 1,Section 1.5 -equivalency states "nothing in this standard is intended to prevent the use of systems,methods, or devices of equivalent or superior quality, for resistance, effectiveness, durability, and safety" over those prescribed by this standard. This document is developed and submitted as a proposed alternative to the protection specifically prescribed by NFPA 13. Based on approvals and testing, the proposed alternatives provide an equivalent or superior level of protection which is prescribed by NFPA 13. Coolers Currently NFPA 13 does not have a ceiling-only protection option for dry and preaction systems for multiple row racks. All currently published protection options for storage 30 ft. high require in-rack sprinklers. Sprinklers installed in racks and in freezers are potentially problematic due to there susceptibility to mechanical damage. For dry-pipe systems, there is potential for significant property damage and business interruption due to water discharge and water freezing within the sprinkler system if an in-rack sprinkler is damaged.
