<br /> Ill. DESCRIPTION; A, General: TimberStrand Lamina'ted Strand Lum-
<br />ber (LSL) is manufactured from strands of aspen blended with an isocya-
<br />nato-based adhesive complying with tho requirements no,ed in the "Tim-
<br />berStrand Laminated Strand Lumber Manufacturing Standard," The
<br />straods are oriented in a parallel direction add ~ormed into a lsrge mat, 8
<br />feet wide by 35 feet 10nB, of various thicknesses. The mats are pressed
<br />to the desired thickness using a steam [niection press. TimberStrand LSL
<br />members are available in thicknesses up to 5V2 inches, depths to 48
<br />ioches and lennhs~sp to 3~ feet.
<br /> B. Design and Allowable Stresses: Design provisions for solid-sawn
<br />dimension lumber are applicable to TimbsrStrand LSL unless otherwise
<br />noted in this report.
<br /> Allowable unit stresses for dry conditions of use ars noted in Table No,
<br />I for TimberStrand LSL.
<br /> Where members qualify as repetative members as defined in the appli-
<br />cable code, an increase in allowable stresses related to bending of 4 per-
<br />cent, is permitted.
<br /> Design values for through bolts, l/s-inch-diameter lag bolts and nails
<br />are stated in Table No, I, Three-eighths- and e/e-inch-diameter lag bolts
<br />are permitted to be used, provided the design procedures are in actor~
<br />dance with fha applicable code for wood having a specific gravity of 0.50.
<br />Nail spacing is limded, as noted in Footnote 4 of Table NO. I,
<br /> Him Joisl: Use of TimberStrand LSL Rim board shall be in accordance
<br />with the rim joist applications noted in Table No, II.
<br />iV, INSTALLATION: Application shall comply with this report and the
<br />applicable code.
