The single 1" top plates will easily split out from the lag screws and neither 1" or 2" manufactured
dwelling top plates are designed to transfer the roof live loads of the manufactured dwelling or the
awning/carport to the studs. To transfer the loads from the sidewall studs to the ground, the current rules
suggest perimeter pier blocking at 8' on center. However, with the increased weight of the newer
manufactured dwollings and the.additional roof load from the awning/carportil'~*6n center would be mom
appropriate. All other attachments should be made according to the awning/carport manufacturer's
engineered plans with special attention paid to the top and bottom post com/ectiona a/rd ground anchors.

Regarding your question of which takes precedence for the attachment of accessory structures to
manufactured dwellings (manufactured dwelling manufacturer's installation instructions vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon Specialty Codes take precedence.

Thardc you for bringing this issue to my attention. We are currently in the process of re-writing the
manufactured dwelling rules and will attempt to make this section more clear and more "user fi'iendly."

PATRiCK D.
