PORTS

As we discussed ov~ the phone, OAR 918-510-030(3) does not prohibit the attachment of awnings or
carports to manufactured dwellings, but e~tabli~hes conditions by which it can be done. The intent of this
rule, though not very clear, is to allow the attachment of awnings and carporm to the sidewalls of
manufactured dwellings.

Tixe proper alt. achment of an awning or carport skou[d consist of the following: The awning or carport
rail should be attached with lag screws directly to each sidewall smd (studs are usually at 16" on center),
Attachment m the siding only is not acceptable and we do not recommend attaching rails to sidewall top
plates. The single 1" top plates will easily split out from the lag screws and neither 1" or 2" manufactured
dwelling top plates are d~igned to transfer the roof live loads of th,e, manufactured dwelling or the
awmng/carport to the stud~~tli'~:g,~tu~e. Ill:ll~es,.

engineered plans with special attention paid ~o the top and bottom post cormeeriom and ground anchors.

Regarding your question of which takes precedence for the attachment of accessory structures to
manufactured dwellings (rmmufacmred dwelling manufacturer's installation insrructio~ vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon Specialty Codes take precedence.

Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. We are currently in the process of r~writing the
manufactured dwelling rolm and will attempt to make this section moro clear antl more "user friendly."

PATRICK D.
