During that inspec on
it was noted that your existing septic system disp
field is completely full of sewage and is appare Ly
failing. I located three existing disposal field line in
the back yard which leaves only the front yard for
pair. The front yard consists of an area approximatel
feet by 40 feet for installation of a drainfield.
appears that there are two options available for
repair of your septic system.

1. Installation of a standard disposal field in
front yard. Examination of the soils in the yard
veals a hard pan at about 18" below the surface. Ls
pan would limit the effectiveness of any drainfield
stalled this area. There is also insufficient are~
install a full sized standard system that meets
current Department of Environmental Quality rules.
to the limited area and soil conditions, the disp
cannot have the life expectancy of a normal systel A
notation would have to be attached to a permit sta' ~g
that the disposal field is undersized and in poor s, .s
and is considered a substandard svstem.

2. Installation of a sand filter alternative sys'
The location of the disposal field will be in the f~ ~t
yard. The disposal field for a sand filter is consi~
ably smaller than a standard system and it appears ~ ~t
there is sufficient area on the property for a sy~
that meets the D.E.Q. rules. Detailed plans are
quired prior to the issuance of a permit for a ~ ~d
filter.

Senator Building · 220 High Street NE Salem, Oregon 97301-3
