SAND FILTEH C,A~PING FILL SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION DETAIL SHEET

January 25, 1994

APPLICANT=
SITE NUMBER=

CARLO ELLIS
94-295
SUBSTANDAi~D SAND FILTER-CAPPING FILL P~EPAIR

Your site has been found suitable for a SAND FILTER ALTERNATIVE SEWAGE
DISPOSAL SYSTEM. The following Construction specifications shall apply to the
installation of your septic system.

The septic tank shall have a minimum liquid capacity of 1000
gallons.

The projected daily sewage flow for this project is calculated at
450 gallq~s per day. Based on soil conditions observed on this
site, the disposal field will be sized at 50 ~ineal feet per 150
~allons of projected daily sewage flow. A minimum of 1S0 lineal
feet of disposal field will be required for your proposed develop-
ment. The disposal trenches are constructed two (2) feet wide and
on minimum ten (10) foot centers and with no line exceeding 125
feet in length. The trenches and perforated pipe are installed
level (±1") and contoured to follow the natural ground surface.

The disposal field shall be constructed with equ.al distribution
with a minimum trench depth of 12 inches and a maximum trench
depth of 12 inches. There must be at least 16 inches of backfill
over the top of the gravel, measured from the natural ground
surface.

The sand filter system shall be designed and operated as per OAR
340-71-290 through 340-71-305. Detailed plans for the system must
be submitted prior to permit issuance. A building permit is
required if a site built consrete box is used as the sand filter
container. A pamphlet is available in our office which details the
requirements for a sand filter system.

A capping fill is required with this system. The system shall be
constructed as indicated on the attached Capping Fill construction detail
sheet. Construct%on is limited to the dry soil summer season.

This approval is site specific to the area tested and the septic system
must be located in the immediate area of the test pits unless otherwise autho-
rized by this office. A new site evaluation may be required if the system is
proposed for a different area on the property.

SFECIAL CONDITIONS:
Construct the shallow capping fill drainfield within the immediate area
of the soil test pits. A shallow tile de-watering might benefit the
drainfield if an outlet point can be established. The installation is
substandard because a high seasonal water table can be expected within
the drainfield area at or very near the soil surface. The sand filter
base must be elevated to achieve the 12 inches minimum separation
difference required between the collector-drain outlet invert and the
top of the drainfield drainrock. The existing septic system must be
abandoned at the earliest opportunity, we will consider connecting the
larger manufactured home into the existing system on an interim basis
only with a written commitment from the owner to construct the necessary
sand filter-capping fill repair system during the coming summer season.
Use filter fabric to cover the drainrock in the drainline trenches.

THIS iS NOT A PE~,MIT TO INSTALL THE SEPTIC SYSTEM. DO NOT INSTALL THE SYSTEM
UNTIL A VALID PEP, MIT HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THIS OFFICE.
