Any public building that exceeds 5,000 square feet
in size is required to have a readily available water supply within 500 feet
of such building, capable of supplying firefighting apparatus at the rate of
500 gallons per minute. The total gallonage required for your new church
building, which you indicated as 7,360 square feet and one story in height, is
7,360 gallons. The requirement must meet the approval of the local fire
distr~ct, which in this case is Stayton Fire District. The individual
responsible to assist you with approval is Fire Chief Ron Tegen.

The water supply requirement can be met through the use of underground
cisterns, surface ponds, or other water storage containers capable of having
the minimum gallonage available. The fire department must have direct access
and the capability of drawing the water from this reservoir at the 500 gallon
per minute rate. The standpipes required to draw this water can be no less
than 4 inches of inside diameter with at least two 2-1/2 inch outlets provided.

This information is provided to help in your planning for the new church.
Please contact Fire Chief Tegen at your convenience to discuss the
arrangements for the water supply reservoir and location for fire depa.rtment
access to the drafting standpipe.

Please contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

rosl&r
Deputy State Fire Marshal

GAC:mgj1370P

cc: Fire Chief Ron Tegen, Stayton Fire District
