49930 N Santiam Hwy SE SITE VISIT REPORT
Idanha, OR 97350-9503 State Farm Claim No. 37-11K4-75P
The James Hardie Building Products company recommends that caulking be
re-applied when it has begun to show signs of wear, in order to help keep moisture
from getting into the wall cavity. Furthermore, they recommend the use of caulks
and sealants that remain permanently flexible. It is feasible that some of the caulking
used during the original installation of the siding was not permanently flexible, but
even if was, caulking does break down and age over time with exposure to weather
and sun.
The siding planks and panels themselves appear to be in good condition. As
part of normal prep work for re-painting, the joints in the siding should cleaned and
re-caulked, and any dents, chips, cracks, or other minor surface damage should be
filled with cementitious patching compound, as recommended by the manufacturer.
Report Date: March 28, 2021 Page 28 of 44
Site Visit Date: March 6, 2021 Taylor& Syfan Consulting Engineers, Inc.
