49930 N Santiam Hwy SE SITE VISIT REPORT
Idanha, OR 97350-9503 State Farm Claim No. 37-11 K4-75P
There is a continuous ridge vent cut between the roof sheathing, however the
felt paper between the sheathing and metal roofing is continuous across the ridge,
blocking most of the air movement; it was not stopped short of the ridge vent during
the original roofing installation. (It is also noteworthy that during the installation of
the metal roofing, the clear protective adhesive strips attached to the vertical ribs
were not removed as they should have been. This issue will be discussed in more
detail below under METAL ROOF - GARAGE.)
There were a few locations along the ridge where holes had been cut through
the felt at the ridge, however the vent opening is not continuous as it was in the
House attic. There are eave vents through blocking in the Garage. [See Figures 31,
32, & 33 above for the House attic ridge vent. See Figures 38 & 39 below for Garage
attic vents.]
'' t x .
 1,.: j&i....,., , , „ ii;'---
' , i - ‘e- ---.4.,
✓7 _, _ S (I L
4 4
rte '' 14/
.-r,...-77"4,s.." -
:ice .;i''
GARAGE: RIDGE VENT AND EAVE BLOCK VENT [FIGURES 38, 39]
While venting is more of an architectural or mechanical scope item (and was
not a part of the purpose of the site visit), it is recommended that the ridge vent be
opened up for attic venting as was likely originally designed for. (A licensed
contractor or architect can provide guidance for the minimum required free vent
area.) It appeared that there may be a mesh covering already installed above the
felt, however that should be verified.
Report Date: March 28, 2021 Page 17 of 44
Site Visit Date: March 6, 2021 Taylor& Syfan Consulting Engineers, Inc.
