Based on EPA's standard, lead levels in 52 and 53 are above the EPA limit for lead dust on floors in
child occupied homes. The sample locations for the two lead samples are not specifically above the EPA
limit as the samples were not taken of dust on the floor where children have greatest potential for
exposure. No lead was detected in the children's play room in the shop, where the highest concern for
exposure was noted.
52 53 EPA Lead Dust Limit
Attic Joist Pool table on Floors
Lead 13 ug/ft2 20.4 ug/ft2 10 ug/f2
Combustion Byproducts including Soot, Char and ASH
Two 100 cm2 wipe samples were collected for combustion by-products. Airborne particulates in the home are not an air quality or health concern.
2. Heavy metals including Cadmium and Lead may be deposited on surfaces that have not already
been cleaned. All other metals were below OSHA limits and were generally low. This is an
additional concern in homes where children are present.
3. Both samples taken of dimensional framing(joists) resulted had evidence of soot and char. This
is also likely to be present on all surfaces in the shop and all surfaces in the house attic, including
insulation.
---4: -in my professional judgement, the following should be additionally cleaned to ensure that
exposure to potential lead, cadmium and soot/char.
a. Surfaces and contents that have been cleaned are not anticipated to present a health
hazard.
b. NEPA vacuum and damp wipe all surfaces in the shop and any surfaces in the home that
have not already been cleaned.
c. Remove insulation from the house attic and from the shop attic and clean all surfaces.
3
