Comments:

A stably funded district will restore the capabilities of the Salem Public Library to again fully achieve its role as a cultural and educational center for the community.

The new District Board of Directors will be responsible for the creation of an administrative structure including bylaws, articles of incorporation, establishment of accounting procedures, and negotiations with the City of Salem to transfer the building and its materials to the district.

Stabilized funding will permit: restoration of lost library services and programs; hiring people for the many positions lost over the past decade due to budget cuts; assured continuation of the bookmobile; purchase of books, computers, and materials; and increased hours and days the library is open. Long range plans could include building much needed library branches in the north, east and south areas of Salem.

It is an exciting opportunity and I would enjoy working to bring a new library district to its full potential.
