North Marion School District 15 Launa Pohlschneider OCCUPATION: I am housewife that helps with our farming activities; I also manage the St. Paul Rodeo ticket office for three months each year. OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: I worked for General Foods Corporation as a Pesticide Chemists, until raising four kids became more important. EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: I graduated from Oregon State University in Food Science and Technology, after attending Woodburn High School. PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: I am presently a member of the North Marion School Board and have been for the past 13 years, serving as Chairman at different times; I was an appointed member of the Oregon School Board’s Legislative Policy Committee for two years; Prior to board election, I was on the North Marion School Budget committee for several years. Being a school board member, takes time and dedication: and I am willing to donate the hours needed to be a successful board member. Our district budget is one of the board’s primary responsibilities. Many years of budget committee and board membership make me an effective, experienced and informed member for the yearly budget work. Several times I have help to negotiate the employee contracts for the school district. As 80% of the school budget goes to employee salary and benefits, it is important to bargain and know the limits of the budget. Our school district has been able to keep class sizes small, maintain programs, and add programs, technology, and excellent teachers, because of good budget management. As a school board member, I take great pride and satisfaction in helping North Marion Schools provide the best possible education for the children of this community. I keep a clear vision of student achievement and have helped to set standards and goals to increase our testing scores. School climate and safety are an important focus presently. By living in the community for the past 28 years, and having four children attend North Marion Schools, I am sensitive to community and staff feelings: and I am good listener.
