Silver Falls Library District Bill Peckenpaugh OCCUPATION: Instructional Designer OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: Fire fighter/paramedic EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Bachelor of Theology, Agape Seminary (Fort Myers, Florida); Point Arena High School (Pt. Arena, California) PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: None We have a wonderful resource in the Silver Falls Library! If elected to the Library Board, I will work hard to: Deliver greater value to the taxpayer In order for our library to bring the best value to the taxpayer, we must: • Work hard to operate within the budget • Find creative funding options • Seek private grant money as well as [or instead of] government grants; government grants are simply more taxpayer money • Encourage donations of materials, money, and time (library volunteers) Attract more library district residents to the library The Silver Falls Library District contains roughly 15,000 people, yet there are only about 8,000 registered borrowers. Many taxpayers are not even aware they are in the district, and may access library services. We must: • Increase community awareness of the library and the services it offers • Continue to build a strong children’s program • Continue to expand outreach programs to our non-English-speaking friends • Encourage community use of library facilities (for meetings, art exhibits, etc.) Maintain community control of the library I trust parents to determine what their own children should read and see. Washington politicians do not — they keep passing laws, particularly regarding the Internet, and the courts keep striking them down as unconstitutional. I believe that: • Local parents should decide what their children read and see • The only effective [and free] Internet filter is a child’s parent sitting next to the child at the computer terminal • Our local community should decide what is appropriate for our library — not outside special interest groups, and not Washington politicians
Increased taxpayer value, increased library use, Vote Bill Peckenpaugh for Silver Falls Library Board. Thank you! (This information furnished by Bill Peckenpaugh and is printed exactly as submitted.) |
