MEASURE NO. 24-147

Proposed
Salem Public Library District

Argument in Favor:

TEACHERS KNOW THE VALUE OF THE LIBRARY

As teachers, we support the Salem Public Library District because it will mean so much to children and families. Parents who read encourage their children to read. Access to the reading materials at the local library is an essential link for parents and children.

The Salem Public Library District will reach out beyond the strict boundaries of the City of Salem to the boundaries of the Salem-Keizer School District (excluding the City of Keizer, whose city leaders opted out). This would bring full library service to some 40,000 people who currently fall outside of any tax-supported library area. Many of these are Salem-Keizer School District students who attend our schools alongside students who already have the advantages of full library access.

Reading is an essential foundation for every child’s education. The best way to become a fluent reader is practice. Libraries are both a vast and cost-effective source of books. We need the Salem Public Library District to ensure a strong future for our libraries so students can learn and grow into strong citizens of our community.

WE URGE YOU TO VOTE YES FOR THE
SALEM PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT!
