PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: Silverton City Councilor; 1995-2002

During the past eight years I have served as a City Councilor, Silverton has faced many challenges, and seen many successes. With the opening of the Oregon Garden, the city has a great opportunity for a revitalized downtown economy.

At the same time, growth and quality-of-life issues continue to demand that we provide creative and satisfactory solutions, balancing private and public concerns, as well as dealing with increased budget pressures, and regulations from the county, state, and federal government, which have great impacts on our community.

I believe everyone should participate in this process as much as possible, and I deeply believe that local government is a place where we all have a voice, and we all can work to keep our community the unique and vital place that nurtures us all.

I have learned that governing is a complex, challenging and ultimately fair process, which works for the common good. It is not a perfect process, but it is truly democratic in the best sense of the word. I am committed to this process, and I hope I have earned the opportunity to serve as your city councilor for four more years.
