PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE:

Public Member – Oregon Bar Association Board of Governors; Advisory Committee - Labor Education Research Center, U. of O.; Chairman - North Santiam Transportation and Recreation Committee; Member of Turner City Council 1999-2002: Council President 2001- 2002; Mayor of Turner 2002-2003.

I’m running for a second term as Mayor and again face opposition. My background includes one term on the city council serving as council president the last two years, and one term as mayor. Turner is growing rapidly and I’d like to continue working with the City Council, City Staff and the appointed Committees to play a role in its future while making our city a great place to call home.

Two years ago one of the key campaign issues dealt with the possibility of an electrical generation plant being built in Turner. Unfortunately, the State has not resolved it as yet. I opposed this facility then and continue to do so. Turner’s applicable land use rules and related ordinances totally won’t accommodate such a facility. Similar to the 2002 election, my current opponent also supports the facility. I believe citizens who want to get involved in local government have a commitment to stand behind the rules the local jurisdiction has enacted. Personal considerations must be set aside in favor of established criteria, otherwise the rules are meaningless and chaos exists.

We’ve dealt with numerous issues in the past two years and have provided resolution whenever possible, while working almost daily with Staff on a myriad of concerns. These past two years have seen many changes and this will continue. I’m told we are turning the corner and I’m asking for the opportunity to continue as Turner’s Mayor.
