EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Undergraduate work at Portland State University and Oregon State University. Certified in Dental Hygiene, Oregon Health Sciences University, 1966

PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: City Councilor, Ward 8, Salem; Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; Willamette River Crossing Capacity Task Force; Edgewater/Wallace Road Working Group; West Salem Plan Steering Committee; Landslide Hazard Advisory Committee; Tree Preservation Ordinance Task Force; West Salem Neighborhood Association, Parks Chair, Secretary, Rep. for the Glenn and Gibson Creeks Watershed Council.

Linda Bierly: working for the Library

Linda Bierly organized grass roots support to include funding for full hours at West Salem’s Branch Library in the Salem budget. This included organization of the West Salem Branch Library Action Committee, a broad range of West Salem community leaders. The history of West Salem’s support for its Library reflects the role of the West Salem Branch Library in strengthening the identity of the West Salem Community. Linda understands the importance of branch libraries in building strong neighborhoods.

Linda Bierly believes healthy communities offer literacy and educational opportunities for everyone. She also believes that an independent Library District directly responsible to the voters is the best way to guarantee that this benefit will always be there to serve the community.

Linda Bierly believes that the Library District must be managed in a fiscally prudent manner.The public tax dollars are paid in trust that funds will be used to provide the best possible service at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers. Linda has experience in budgets and will use that experience to work toward efficient management of the Library District.

Linda Bierly will work for you. Public involvement has been a consistent theme throughout her public service. She believes that concerned citizens best understand how to run public institutions. If elected, Linda will reach out to interested citizens for opinion and advice. She will depend on Library users to provide direction to the Library District Board so that it will truly reflect public priorities.
