MEASURE NO. 24-147

Proposed
Salem Public Library District

Argument in Favor:

Libraries yes!

The library district measure is on the ballot because over 14,000 valid signatures from voters in the proposed Library District were turned in during our petition drive this winter and spring. The library district is on the ballot because hundreds of volunteers and library friends stood at tables, canvassed neighborhoods, and asked for your help.

The library district is on the ballot because we believe it is the only way we can provide stable hours at our libraries. Fifteen years of continuing budget reductions, threatened branch closures, and the discontinuation of key services, such as bookmobile and branch hours have convinced us that a stand-alone library district is the answer.

We look forward to libraries that are open for your convenience. We can’t wait for the new materials and programs that the district will fund. We foresee a day when the bookmobile will operate full time serving our retirement centers, daycare centers and neighborhoods. We envision programs for children and adults that will fulfill a need in our community, we want to restore the services we have lost over the past fifteen years.

We love our libraries, and we know you love them, too. Let’s show our support on the ballot this November.

Please join us in voting for a stable future for the Salem Public Library.
