MEASURE NO. 24-130

Sublimity Rural Fire Protection District

Argument in Favor:

Yes on 24-130

This letter is on behalf of the Sublimity Firefighters Association. We are your neighbors, friends, fellow community members; we are your firefighters. We are the people who respond to your emergencies. We answer this call morning, noon and night. We spend time away from our families, fight fire all night, then go to work the next morning exhausted. We love it, and we will continue to these things as long as we are able.

Many years ago, this District did not receive many calls for service. If you wanted to join the Department, you came to the station, went to a drill and were placed on a fire engine. Those days are over! The firefighters of this District respond to over 750 calls a year. Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a fulltime job without pay.

We would like to ask you a question. Are you willing to join the Sublimity Fire as a volunteer firefighter? Are you willing to give up three months of Weekends, and Wednesdays evenings, every Thursday evening and on top of that respond to emergencies 24 hours a day 7 days a week? Are you willing to give up Christmas day with your children to respond to an emergency? Are you willing to take on a full time job with little compensation? If not, we understand. That is why we are asking you to vote for this ballot measure.

We are not the little department that we used to be. We are busy and getting busier, while at the same time volunteerism has declined. We are your volunteer firefighters, we need your help. We do not want to pay higher taxes, but we are willing to do this for the good of the community. The firefighters Association has thought very hard about this decision, this effects us tremendously. We feel it is the best thing for the community.

Please vote YES for measure 24-130
