MEASURE NO. 24-128

City of Scotts Mills

Ballot Title:

Referred To The People By The City Council

Three-Year Public Safety Local Option Tax

Question: Shall City of Scotts Mills levy $15,000 each year for three years to pay for public safety operations beginning 2005-2006?
This measure may cause property taxes to increase more than three percent.

Summary: The taxes needed for three years total $45,000, which will be imposed in equal amounts of $15,000 per year. The taxes will be used to pay for public safety services in the summer (June through September) and as needed throughout the year. The services will be provided through a contract with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The need for public safety services is especially high during the summer months. It is estimated that the proposed tax will result in a rate of $1.33 per $1,000 of assessed value in the first year. The estimated tax cost for this measure is an ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best information available from the county assessor at the time of the
estimate.
