MEASURE NO. 24-117

City of Salem

Argument in Favor:

VOTE “YES” ON KIDS & COPS

As community leaders, we have a deep commitment to a Salem that is thriving-with healthy families and a healthy economy. Measure 24-117 is an important step towards a positive future for our city.

In the past few years, we have seen the local methamphetamine problem escalate to unthinkable proportions. Salem’s crime rate is twice the national average. Our police tell us that 95% of Salem’s property crime is drug-related. Our judges report that 85% of family court cases are meth-related. Meth labs and drug houses shut down in the past three years have increased 700%.

Measure 24-117 is an investment that protects Salem from further meth invasion and prevents Salem’s youth from involvement in drugs, alcohol, and other risky behaviors.

As Salem leaders, we strongly agree that we need to unite in addressing local issues which we can control. This is about dedicating local dollars for local issues with local accountability. This is about making sure we have enough local officers to keep our neighborhoods safe, and enough positive activities to keep our children out of trouble and successful in Salem schools.

This is about our quality of life in Salem.

We hope you will join us in voting YES on Measure 24-117.
